The importance of SPF Protection

Think SPF is just for your summer holiday? Think again.
Our experts explain the importance of having an SPF in your daily routine...

WHY DOES MY SKIN NEED SPF PROTECTION EVERY DAY?

Solar radiation is composed of UV rays. They can have harmful effects on the skin in the short, medium and long term, causing sunburn, pigmentation spots and, in the longer term, premature ageing of the skin. Protection of the skin against UV rays is therefore necessary.

DO I NEED SPF IF IT’S CLOUDY?

According to our UK Education Manager Laura Miles, whatever the weather you should be wearing SPF, especially to protect against UVA rays. Without realising it, we are exposed all year round to UVA rays. These solar rays can pass through clouds and windows so it is important to wear SPF protection when inside and outside. In short, SPF is sneaky and even if you can't feel or see the sun's rays your skin needs your help protecting itself.

Still not convinced? Listen to this: Even if there is a sharp decline in temperature and brightness, a cloud layer at an average altitude only prevents 30 to 70% of UV rays from passing through. A thin layer of scattered white clouds can even accentuate solar radiation through reverberation, which can increase the power of the rays by up to 10%. UV rays are around all the time, which is why we recommend including a SPF into your daily routine.

HOW TO USE DECLÉOR'S ALOE VERA SUN CARE RANGE

The protection provided by sunscreen depends on the distribution of the product on all exposed skin. It also depends on the external conditions that cause sweating, for example when exercising or lying in the sun. To compensate for this and to ensure optimal protection, it’s recommended to reapply the product frequently and generously, especially after sweating or wiping.

Decléor’s sunscreen can also be applied with foundation, day cream or make-up. If the face exposed to the sun then it is still recommended that the sunscreen is applied throughout the day. For the ultimate protection, you should re-apply your sun cream every 2 hours.

Please see each of the product pages for detailed instructions on how to use each of our Aloe Vera Sun Care Products.
